Secretly, don't you think critics were hoping 'The Heartbreak Kid' would fail at the box office, just so they could make a pun with the film's title. It's practically daring them to make it, and many didn't refuse the offer.

Nostalgia Trailers
On Entertainment Weekly Popwatch today, they posted trailers from two of the most notorious pieces of crap released in the 1980's: The Pirate Movie, a musical starring Kristy McNichol and Christopher Atkins, and Gymkata, an action movie starring US Olympic medalist Kurt Thomas (which sounds awesome, I know, but don't be fooled).
The Pirate Movie trailer is...memorable, of course, but there's no beating some of the narration in that Gymkata trailer.
"Combine the discipline, the timing, and the POWER of gymnastics with the explosive force of ka-ra-tey, and a new, all-powerful martial art is born!"
"He must penetrate a mountain fortress to compete in an ancient, savage ritual. They call it....THE GAME!" (How'd they come up with that name?)
"When gymnastics and ka-ra-tey are fused, the combustion becomes an explosion, and a new kind of martial arts superhero is born!"

It suddenly occurs to me that I told you guys Ben Whishaw was pretty before without providing ANY evidence. Silly me!

What kind of blogger am I if I can't even deliver the sultry man goodness on a regular basis?! After all, that's really why we're all on the internet, right? We might occassionally drop in at Entertainment Weekly or something, but let's get real. Al Gore can say he invented the internet all he likes, but I suspect Brad Pitt's pectorals did a lot more for the world wide web than any presidential campaign site ever could.
Of course I'm joking....possibly.

"It Wasn't There..."
On today's dispatch from the New York Film Festival, Matt Singer and Alison Wilmore of the IFC News Podcast (my 2 personal heroes) discussed Todd Haynes' new Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There. Their opinion...? The film is fairly uneven throughout with some parts (Cate Blanchett's segment set at the height of fame) working much better than others (Richard Gere's confounding segment about a recluse in backwoods Missouri).
Cate Blanchett is apparently the stand out of the film, and it still seems likely that she will receive an Oscar nomination (Harvey Weinstein is even quoted to have said he would kill himself if she doesn't).
No mention at all about the segment I was most interested in (the one featuring Perfume's Ben Whishaw), but the word is that his segment is the smallest.
Oh well...at least I can enjoy his picture that I had to cap from the trailer. His part's so small there's not even any stills of him I could find, just 50 bajillion of Cate Blanchett. He's SO pretty, even under that rat's nest.

Sex and the City Set Photos
One of these days, I'm going to publish the ultra important treastise I've been working on in my head on the men of Sex and the City on this here blog. (Here's a taste: Steve the bartender is the best, and don't bother arguing otherwise) Until then, I will continue to watch the seasons on DVD and watch as Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and (the best one) Miranda live their lives in 1000 different positions.
As I'm sure you've heard, there is now a film version currently shooting in New York. Whether this will work at all remains to be seen, but, thanks to Ain't It Cool News, we now know that the movie will contain a flashback to the 4 characters' earlier years.
That's Sarah Jessica Parker in the center of the first photo, surrounded by the actresses playing the 4 younger versions. It's pretty obvious which one is playing who if you've ever seen the show. They did a pretty good job of casting a young Kim Cattrall, I must say.
