Rural Gets Mentioned #2: MATT AND ALISON READ MY LETTER!

I'm not even going to pretend to be cool or teenage-unaffected about this.

If you've read some of my earlier entries, you might be familiar with the fact that I have quite an unnatural obsession with Matt Singer and Alison Wilmore (pictured above), critics and pocasters for IFC. They have a weekly podcast available through iTunes that is an absolute MUST LISTEN for any film fan. My iPod has over 60 pocasts from them on it, and I listen to at least one of them (and I'm not kidding) pretty much everyday.

Why am I mentioning this? Well, at the end of this week's podcast on 80's nostalgia in modern pop culture, they read some feedback sent to them about last week's podcast on film chemistry. And you know what? THEY READ MY EMAIL!

After laughing about the comment/joke I opened my email with, they proceed to agree with me that Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet had great romantic chemistry in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

There's nothing like having your name read on . . . air(?) by your two heroes to improve your mood on a sucky day.

Anyway, you can listen to the podcast here. They read my letter when there's approximately 3 or so minutes remaining, but I'd really encourage you to listen to the whole thing.

(I'm William . . . by the way)

"It Wasn't There..."

On today's dispatch from the New York Film Festival, Matt Singer and Alison Wilmore of the IFC News Podcast (my 2 personal heroes) discussed Todd Haynes' new Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There. Their opinion...? The film is fairly uneven throughout with some parts (Cate Blanchett's segment set at the height of fame) working much better than others (Richard Gere's confounding segment about a recluse in backwoods Missouri).

Cate Blanchett is apparently the stand out of the film, and it still seems likely that she will receive an Oscar nomination (Harvey Weinstein is even quoted to have said he would kill himself if she doesn't).

No mention at all about the segment I was most interested in (the one featuring Perfume's Ben Whishaw), but the word is that his segment is the smallest.

Oh well...at least I can enjoy his picture that I had to cap from the trailer. His part's so small there's not even any stills of him I could find, just 50 bajillion of Cate Blanchett. He's SO pretty, even under that rat's nest.

A Must See: Matt Singer and Alison Wilmore

I know this is the second time I've told people to stop reading my crap and go enjoy something else, but this one is definitely worth it AND has nothing to do with Tyra Banks. I swear.

All this week, Matt Singer and Alison Wilmore of the IFC News Podcast (which everyone should listen to religiously) have been doing live video reports from the New York Film Festival and have been discussing their thoughts on films that they have seen. Some they have liked (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly) and some they have....not (Redacted). They broadcast live at 1:00 pm US Eastern time, but you can swing by at anytime to watch the video of the broadcast. Anyone who does tune in live, however, can ask them questions.

Ok, enough selling.

God I love these guys...

Listen to their podcasts if you like what you see. The ones still online can be found here.
